Jake's
Monster Togue!

On February 12, 5:30 Sunday morning my MonOncle Pete and I
headed out for Eagle Lake. It was 15 degrees below. We began to set up our
flags, one at a time. We'd set one up, go warm up in the truck, set another,
and so on until we had a total of 10.
After that was all done, and we got the icicles out of our
noses, took our chisel and made a 2x4 hole in the ice, in case we caught a big
fish, we didn't want it to freeze.
Before we had time to finish that, a flag went up. We ran
to the flag and saw that the line was stuck behind the
reel. It sounded like a guitar. I took the line and set the hook. I fought
with the fish for 8 minutes. The fish darted to the bottom, and back up again
three times. My friend Shane saw the bubbles come up so we new he was
drowning. Finally I was able to bring it up to the surface."I didn't know what
was coming out of that hole." My MonOncle Pete grabbed it by the gills and
threw the monster togue on the ice. Wow, what an awesome fish!!
On the way home, there was all kinds of snow and no
traction, but the weight of my "big togue" brought us home safe.

Jake is 11 years old and his monster togue
weighed 14.5 pounds and measured 33 inches long! It was caught on Eagle Lake.
